India

The MobiliseYourCity programme in India is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Government of India at the national level. Other key stakeholders, such as Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC), Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL), contribute to the implementation of the programme at the city level.

At the national level, the foremost tasks include to ensure the linking of urban transport policies to GHG emission reduction and develop an MRV structure to measure and report the outcomes to access climate finance. The envisaged strategy and its operational documentation tools will contribute in achieving the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) outlined by the Government of India (GoI) under the Paris Agreement, which is "to reduce the emission intensity of its GDP by 33%-35% by 2030 from 2005 level". The strategy, known as ‘Climate Change Mitigation Strategy for Urban Transport (CCMSUT) in India and definition and preparation of an MRV system’, is presently under preparation with support of French Development Agency (AFD) and Urban Mass Transit Company Ltd. (PIU of MobiliseYourCity India Programme).

At the local level, the three pilot cities viz. Ahmedabad, Kochi and Nagpur are preparing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) as well as pre-feasibility studies for urban transport priority projects that are identified through consultations with key local stakeholders. They also organise awareness programs and capacity building activities.
