How can cities practically integrate gender into Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (PMUS)? This session, the second in the Ciudades que se mueven con equidad series, presented the new Topic Guide on gender mainstreaming in PMUS by TUMI and MobiliseYourCity and walked participants through its key contents and entry points across the full SUMP cycle.Through a mix of presentation, a case study from Santiago de Chile and an interactive exercise, the webinar showed how gender-responsive planning can be embedded in each phase of a PMUS, helping practitioners translate principles into concrete measures and adapt solutions to their own local contexts.

What are the key gendered barriers that shape everyday mobility in cities? This session opened the series Ciudades que se mueven con equidad by examining how travel patterns, caregiving responsibilities, unequal access to infrastructure and pervasive safety concerns create distinct mobility realities for women and other marginalised groups. Through conceptual framing and real-world examples from Brussels and Mexico City, the webinar highlighted how gendered inequalities become embedded in transport systems and everyday journeys. The session invited participants to reflect on their own contexts and consider what it means to build mobility systems that are genuinely inclusive—systems that recognise diverse needs, address structural barriers and expand access to rights and opportunities for all.

How can cities make urban mobility genuinely gender-responsive? This session launched MobiliseYourCity’s new Topic Guide on Gender Mainstreaming in SUMPs and showed why gender is a crucial but often overlooked factor shaping how people move. Speakers discussed the specific barriers faced by women and marginalised groups, and how to integrate gender across the whole SUMP cycle – from data and diagnostics to design, governance and implementation – to create safer, fairer and more sustainable mobility systems for all.
