EU InfoPoint conference: Mobility planning for sustainable urban development

Sustainable mobility is key to reaching multiple development goals: we all need transport to reach work, schools and hospitals. Sustainable mobility ensures clean air and helps mitigate the impacts of climate change. Thus, externalising the EU Green Deal is essential, particularly in urban areas. Transport accounts for a significant share of GHG emissions but only receives 3% of climate financing. Beyond the climate challenges, sustainable transport enhances local efforts in the sectors of education, health, and jobs. Collaborative action is needed to realize the full potential of sustainable mobility.

Since 2016, MobiliseYourCity has empowered cities worldwide to improve mobility for their citizens and decarbonise transport to fight the global climate crisis. Partners have combined their unique strengths to support cities in developing sustainable urban mobility plans, identifying solid and financially sustainable investment opportunities and accessing development finance and EU investment facilities. In this session, we provided insights on how MobiliseYourCity and its 13 institutional partners are scaling European approaches to sustainable urban mobility planning worldwide. The session covered an introduction to the work of the partnership and addressed the questions of how sustainable urban mobility plans can help to prioritise investment decisions and identify opportunities to implement measures in accordance with the EU Green Deal.
