First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels

24 April 2026
Santa Marta, Colombia
EN

This conference aims to launch a concrete process through which a coalition of committed countries, subnational governments and relevant stakeholders can identify and advance practical pathways for a just, orderly and equitable transition away from fossil fuels. The process will be informed by the experience and perspectives of governments, academia, Indigenous Peoples, civil society, workers, the private sector and other key actors involved in different stages of the transition.

Rather than serving as a negotiation space or replacing existing multilateral frameworks, the Conference is designed as an implementation-focused political platform for those already ready to move forward. It will complement the UNFCCC process and contribute to the COP30 Presidency’s roadmap, while fostering an inclusive and horizontal dialogue on democratic climate governance and practical delivery.

The Conference will result in a report identifying enabling pathways to support sustainable societies and economies through the transition away from fossil fuels. These pathways will be structured around three thematic pillars that define the scope of the event.

The event will take place on April 24th - 29th
