1. Description

How to monitor the action plan of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and measure its impact on mobility year after year? an Urban Mobility Observatory can be implemented as a Measure, Report, and Verification (MRV) tool allowing the follow-up of (i) the evolution of the urban mobility characteristics at the city level and (ii) the implementation and results of the SUMP.

The MobiliseYourCity programme in India has accompanied three cities – Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Koch – in the process of collecting, analysing, and monitoring all data needed to understand urban mobility within each city and evaluate the progress and results of the SUMP (or CMP – Comprehensive Mobility Plan) implementation. A set of 20 indicators has been defined and are presented through graphs and maps on an interactive website. Thanks to the support from Agence Française de Devéloppement (AFD), the consortium Transitec – DVDH – CEPT – Oslandia has developed this simple and visual online tool for these three Indian cities. Through this session, the MobiliseYourCity community will benefit from a presentation of this tool, that could be usefully replicated for other cities.

This first session will present the purpose of an urban mobility observatory, the general features of such a tool and the construction of its key indicators. Methods for collecting data and calculating indicators will be presented. You will have the opportunity to dive into data analysis from past, present and future urban mobility trends with the examples of these three Indian cities.
