This forward-thinking publication by the MobiliseYourCity Partnership shines a light on integrating climate adaptation into the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) cycle—an essential approach for creating urban mobility systems that thrive despite climate uncertainties.
Through the four distinct phases of the SUMP cycle—Preparation and Analysis, Vision and Scenario Building, Measure Planning, and Implementation—this guide equips city planners and policymakers with actionable strategies to:
- Embed resilience at every step: From conducting readiness assessments and analyzing climate risks to setting indicators and targets rooted in adaptation principles.
- Build innovative infrastructure: Develop heat-resistant transit systems, flood-resistant roadways, and nature-based solutions that protect urban mobility assets.
- Engage stakeholders effectively: Foster participatory decision-making and leverage multi-level governance to amplify results.
- Monitor and adapt dynamically: Incorporate emerging climate data to refine targets and enhance strategies during implementation.
With contributions from global leaders in sustainability, the guidelines offer targeted insights for integrating climate considerations seamlessly into each step of the SUMP cycle. City planners, policymakers, and stakeholders—this is your definitive resource for shaping urban landscapes into adaptive ecosystems of the future!
