Transport and Climate Change Week: discover the highlights for Latin America

Discover the highlights for Latin America at the TCCW

The Transport and Climate Change Week (TCCW) connects the transport community around the world to align actions towards the decarbonisation of transport. The fourth edition will take place from 21-25 June and this time, in addition to the regular event in Berlin, there will be decentralised regional event hubs to digitally connect all participants.

Such is the case of the regional agenda for Latin America, which will offer a series of conferences, workshops and seminars aligned to the theme of the global edition “Smart and green recovery in the transport sector”. Here some of the topics that may be of most interest to the Latin American audience.

Conference Day

On 21 June, a series of conferences will connect the global event in Berlin with the regional events (Asia, Latin America and Africa). The event will be opened by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and GIZ.

The first day's conferences will provide an overview of innovative topics on the global transport agenda: digitalisation in the transport sector, electromobility in cities, smart working and mobility. In the case of Latin America, the "Connecting Latin America World Café" will be held to ensure active participation of attendees from the region.

Avoid, Shift, Improve

From 22-24 June conferences will focus on the three steps of the new approach for sustainable urban transport: Avoid, Shift, Improve. The goal of this approach is to promote alternative mobility solutions and develop sustainable transport systems.

For this, the initiative Changing Transport organized presentations to showcase the actions that countries are taking in each of these steps. In the case of Latin America, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia and Peru will participate. Some of these countries will show their actions in the framework of the projects they implement through the Urban Mobility sector of the EUROCLIMA+ programme.

Electric buses in the region

Electric mobility is one of the key focus for green recovery. On 24 June, TUMI Volt will hold the workshop ‘How can electromobility contribute to a green recovery?’.

On 25 June, the MobiliseYourCity Partnership will lead its first Global Forum and regional webinars on various topics. For Latin America, don't miss the webinar ‘Promoting the adoption of electric buses’, which will show the mitigation potential of this type of transport, the resources available for its electrification, financing models for its adoption, as well as an overview of successful electric bus initiatives.

Colombia will be one of the case studies to be presented in this webinar. The TRANSfer project will introduce its publication on the MRV system for the electric buses programme in Colombia. The event will showcase the methodology, the results of this study and share key recommendations for structuring an MRV system for electric buses.
